The Cacao Project launches The Cacao Leaf Fossilisation Training in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Trade and Industry
On July 13th, The Cacao Project, in partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist and the Department of Trade and Industry, launched The Cacao Leaf Fossilisation Training Programme, with the support of the Young Activists Summit. The programme trains on how to preserve and transform mature cocoa leaves into textiles which can be used to create lamps, covers, and packaging.
Since its inception, The Cacao Project has been working to diversify farmer income streams by employing Agroforestry practices, and localising production of chocolate and cocoa products.
The Cacao Leaf Fossilisation Training will enable farmers to utilise the cocoa leaves as an additional source of income, in addition to cocoa pods, developing another industry that farmers and local handicrafters can collaborate on to maximise their products and resources.
The 3-day programme is instructed by guest trainer from Aurora, Mr. Telesforo Zosa, who developed the unique semi-fossilisation technology, which preserves the leaves and maintains the structural integrity of the skeleton, and the sturdy but waxy layer of leaf that resembles fabric or paper.
